Responsible Smoking vs Anti-Smoking

In the future people will recognize the harm being done to public health by ‘negative suggestion’ methods used in current anti-smoking campaigns.

A new campaign ‘Smoke responsibly’ will be adopted as an official strategy. The strategy won’t be trying to scare the smokers but rather engage them in a dialog.

ads are ditched online

Adblock is a free app that gets rid of ads on the web now available at Chrome Web Store

Here's an identical idea I had 3 years ago  http://ithisad.blogspot.de/2009/07/idea-ad-exorcist-10.html  .... the widget offers to swap ads for kittens.

The end of Commodity Age

Commodity paradigm is increasingly becoming obsolete.
The process of 'uncommodification' has already started with information.
ALL information wants to be free (of charge).
When this happens - uncommodification of physical stuff will follow.

Idea: Future of European Union

Problem: Collapse of the current political, social and economic structure of European Union.

Solution: To allow citizens of Europe to choose what political and economic society they prefer to live, according to their values and principles. i.e.:

1. CAPITALISTAN: for people who enjoy working hard and make lots of money.
2. SOCIALISTAN: for people who like to live in a 'nanny' state.
3. TRIBALISTAN: for people who reject all of the above, reject consumerism and governmental control, prefer to live in small sustainable communities, independent and self-governing.

The future EU won't have countries but will be divided on 3 main society zones based on alternative political and economic values.

All 3 society zones will have an agreement of no expansion or interference with each other. Each model will have a sovereign control over its natural resources. Trading of land and natural resources between the zones will be restricted. For example, Capitalistan won't be able to use in any way natural resources of Tribalistan. And 'entrepreneurs' from Tribalistan won't be able to sell it.

To ensure that the equilibrium between the societies is not tipped by one or another society-model, a special UN of Europe will be established. Its task will be to keep political forces of each society from interfering into internal matters of each other,i.e. waging wars, slander, etc.

In my opinion, the future of each society zone will be determined by free and unrestricted migration of populace. To join a system would require to sign a legal contract (responsibilities and rights). Contracts can be permanent or temporary.

Transcendental Art : Entoptic forms

Conventional art is based on perception of outside world (material objects), whereas entoptic (or transcendental) art is generated by inner world (nervous system) and represents different types of subjective visual phenomena.

Entoptic art is psychosomatic in nature and comes out of oneself - namely from the psyche of participating observer.

Interestingly enough, the very first art form on the planet was ‘kick started’ by taking psychoactive ingredients in the diet of the first artists.

“Lewis-Williams and Dowson brought forward the original thesis that Paleolithic art is inspired by subjective visual phenomena, seen and depicted by shamans or spiritual men and women during altered states of consciousness.”

T. McKenna’s “Stoned Ape Theory” is also closely related to this entopic phenomena.

Entoptic forms are created (and perceived) by means of altering a state of consciousness of the observer. A good analogy would be a psychedelic drug. Another good example – a stroboscopic flicker device that produces visual stimuli in the mind of the observer. In other words, these art forms are created out of neurological makeup of the observer, inside the head, responding to external stimuli.

Since entoptic art is a self made, self generated type of art, it is relevant to mention: the better is the observer’s imagination; the richer is the art experience.

Entoptic phenomena is related to the ‘Observer’s Paradox’ principle from quantum physics. (It has been proven that conscious act of observation changes behavior of the observed object.) So, I assert that in entoptic trance observation equals creation.

As more people become interested in exploring personal psyche, ‘right brain’ technologies and gather more accurate understanding of how a human mind works – the creation of new diverse psychoactive stimuli will follow.

Just as with all thoughts and feelings of humankind, the original entoptic creations are stored in the planet’s noosphere (collective consciousness layer) and can be easily accessed through an appropriate stimuli. Note: stimuli dont have to be only psychoactive drugs, they can be physical devises like the dream machine lamp (mentioned above), sense deprivation tanks (Dr. Lilly's), holotropic breathwork, and other techniques to achieve alternative state of consciousness.
For example, famous shamanic paintings of Pablo Amaringo for me are just physical 3D ‘copies’ of the non-physical entopic art forms he mentally created/experienced with the help of ayahuasca stimuli.

Eventually, when the mainstream culture finally moves on from the current ‘material’ worldview paradigm to a more spiritual perception of reality (2012?), the notion of ‘art’ will also acquire a spiritually deeper meaning.

The new entoptic art paradigm will be mankind's rediscovery of the original psychedelic roots of art itself.

Black Swan says less is more

I believe that the current 'global crisis'(Black Swan) is caused by a sudden radical shift in values.
New perceptions create new needs. The next model of society is likely to hold values polar opposite to the current ones. As rules of the game change, so some conventional business practices will transcend or simply perish.

Below is a list of business sectors that in my opinion are going to substantially shrink, transform or die in the near future:

ADVERTISING (less consumption)

BANKING (less debt)

INSURANCE (less fear)

MILITARY (less wars)

POLICE (less crime)

LAWYERS (less crime)

DOCTORS (less diseases)

The Age of Total Frankness might be next.

I believe it's very possible that during the major universal alignment, coming on 21 December 2012, the critical process of human DNA change will be triggered by powerful cosmic radiation reflected by the sun. The human species would suddenly acquire a psychic boost and be forced to live in the new brave world of total brutal frankness.

Social and Environmental impacts of mass telepathy.

Manly P. Hall on the next step of evolution of human consciousness:

"If a man acquires a full ESP:

He no longer will be able to keep a secret.
Nothing would happen without everyone knowing the facts of the matter.
All promotion, all publicity, all propaganda will lose influence.
An individual can not and will not be deceived.
He cannot be exploited.
He cannot in any way be prevented from knowing the truth about how other people feel about him.
Nor can he prevent other people from knowing how he feels about them."

Manly P. Hall

We already know and can see how the extension of a single sensory perception can completely overwhelm the whole pattern of modern society, forcing it into entirely different direction!

With full ESP awakened in every single individual the world would not need lawyers, advertisers, bankers, insurance agents, police, army, salesmen and psychiatrists!

'fake' advertising in the future

Modern advertising has a serious ethical problem:
It artificially creates demand for things that people don't really need. Increasingly so it also perpetuates unsustainable growth.

Here's a simple comparison of what is and will be.

OLD MODEL:

we make a product first and then try artificially create maximum market demand for it (through advertising)
result: unsustainable overproduction

NEW MODEL:

we advertise the concepts of future products first (or try to create maximum market demand for it) and only later, if there's enough positive response for it, we move into production process.
result: sustainable economy

So the difference is in the order of continuity.

This also implies that a creative agency will be spending most of its resources on creating new product concepts and 'fake' ads.

Future of marketing

A thought has a mass that can be measured. In the future people’s thoughts can be detected and quantified by special sensors that would be embedded in the objects of observation, i.e. a billboard, video screen, etc. The length of the visual contact between the observer and the observed object will reveal the degree of interest and the nature of the observer’s response.

News vs Paywalls

My guess is that in the near future the old concept of news ownership will be quite ridiculous.

Paywalls are anti-social and will fail. http://www.wallblog.co.uk/2010/07/14/no-one-is-subscribing-to-the-times-paywall-says-source/

On the future of brand slogans

Todays in Advertising Age article Amsterdam Abandons the 30-Second Spot and Why Long-Form Ads Are the Wave of the Future they write about downfall of expensive tv commercials vs online inexpensive films.

When I read that I remembered a post I published awhile ago where I also speculated about the future destiny of classical tv ads. Not so much in terms of "expensive short vs inexpensive long" but from my point of view that in the future ads will look more like movie trailers offering deeper interactive experiences ... with clever product placements... and free of any direct selling propositions or any self-congratulatory messages.

I bet that 5 to 7 years from now on the majority of all tv or video ads will be like mini-movies with an exciting (hopefully) story and a product placement.

So the creative challenge will be less about crafting a commercial message and more about inventing an engaging and memorable experience that can be traced back to a brand.

and btw, i am almost sure no one will be making ads like this.

Idea: Write the future.

A small widget app that FBook users can install. It appears on the screen every few days, displays some random headline and asks if it’s likely to happen in the nearest future or not.

Second option offers to write your own headline and set the time when it’s likely to happen.

Bild-future-headlines.de would display statistical data of people votes as well as the entire archive with user generated headlines.

Users also have an option to vote for the most popular future headline.

Bild Newspaper would offer a reward, for example a bit of cash, to anyone who correctly predicts the future or picks the right headline.

Headlines can also be posted via Twitter.

A fresh angle for a new sci-fi movie?

Would love to see a sci-fi movie that explores this scenario of human evolution and with the following tag line:

instead of the usual "dominate or die" direction of thinking, that is.

It would be interesting to see a world without any power structures, controlling institutions or religions. Utopia? Not necessarily. If you combine a climate catastrophe, a new electromagnetic radiation from cosmos that changes human DNA and some help from friendly aliens - we'd be there sooner rather than later.

Rant: Why bother to pay for news?

i am subscribed to creativity online free (not spam free!) newsletter. they send me headlines of the news and if i want to read more, i click on the link that takes me to creativity online page... where i am greeted with a message that tells me that i have to pay to proceed further!

i.e. today in their newsletter they mentioned about a new mob app called Starling but wouldnt let me read about it on their page.
so i googled Starling and got tons of info on it: reviews, pics, videos, etc.
(in fact, i have to do this routine all the time!)

my point is:

Why bother with all this subscription paywall at all when it drives its potential readers to other (often better!) sources?

ok, i understand it might work with some sort of exclusive or special content ... but news in general can't be exclusive! And Creativity Online is just all about general news from ad and marketing industry and very little else. anything they report can be easily obtained for free elsewhere online.

... and then all these "only members can leave comments or rate" signs... that alone is so daft!

which brings me to a conclusion:

In the future the news would pay us to read their news!

Prediction: Brand vs Customer video wars

Here's a case at hand: United vs United customers

"Carroll and his band, Sons of Maxwell, decided to write a song about the incident, called 'United Breaks Guitars' and posted the video on YouTube, which has been viewed nearly half a million times since July 6.

United caught wind of the video and apologised to the singer for the dispute, issuing a statement via Twitter, which read: "This has struck a chord [with] us and we've contacted him directly to make it right." source Revolution

After watching this one can only sympathize with the makers of the video.
I wouldn't be surprised to see in the near future more videos like this one coming from ordinary pissed off customers using digital media and expressing their grievances in an artistic way . For example: private videos that make fun of bad customer service in a restaurant, or unfair treatment of insurance company, or just about any product or service a consumer finds a fault with.

This video is a kind of celebrity endorsement for it.

Benefits:

For video makers - fame and recognition
For customers - improvement of the product (brands can't afford to ignore it)
For brands - improvement of the product (and customer relationships)

here's a link to my previous post about a pissed off customer burning his creditcard and making a public statement about it.

Idea: Money of the future

In the future we shall have different money currency from what we are having now.
And it won’t be Euro or Dollar or Gold or any other currency attached to a solid object. I believe that the future money currency will be ENERGY. Why? Because everything is energy. And energy is everything. Our future “money” will resemble a system of energy circulation in nature with the same principle applied to our society.

Our future money won’t have a fixed physical property, like coins or banknotes. It will be pure energy, perhaps digitally encoded and divided into special currency units and it could be called something like Energy Currency Unit (ECU), or Chi, or else.

This energy based currency has a big advantage over "normal" money. Money has to be constantly reprinted to control it’s value. Energy, on the other hand, we cannot artificially create nor can we physically destroy it. We can only manage it or transform from one state to another, i.e. kinetic energy into physical energy, etc. Money is abstract and relative. Energy is concrete and permanent. So, a money system that is based on energy principle is a naturally sustainable system (which goes well with the growing in popularity idea of resource economy!).

Another major difference of ECU-Chi currency over Euro, Dollar, etc is that it opens up totally new ways how to earn and manage your energy-money.

Here’s an example: Say you are broke and need some money. With present money system you are obviously not allowed to print some for yourself but have to do some specialized work in order to be paid. In the future you can “make” your own ECUs using your natural resources. Or in other words you can convert one type of energy into ECU-Chi using special “energy converters” (a special technology that would allow us to recycle all sorts of energy and store it). For instance, personal e-converters would be able to transform ordinary physical energy into a specially encoded kinetic type sort of energy to be stored there in ECU-Chi format. When it is full you can transfer your “money” into you bank account or charge up your shopping paycard.
So, if you are stuck with no money you can always have an option to top up you account by converting your own physical energy into "money". Say, a few hours of dancing would produce energy worth approximately 1 ECU-Chi. If you are fit you can make quite a bit of “pocket money”. When everybody can “sweat out” instant money at will, it would make the current concept of unemployment not quite the same. Moreover – there will be less fat people!

Of course we already have examples of this technology trend – night clubs with energy storing floors, gym machines to charge batteries, etc. All this technology eventually will go personal (like computers and cell phones). When this happens, we can expect a radical shift from traditional money value system towards more sustainable and liberating future.

Here are some positive things to expect out of it:

There will be less crime!
There won’t be starving people!
And there won’t be any more credit crunches either!
