Adblock is a free app that gets rid of ads on the web now available at Chrome Web Store
Here's an identical idea I had 3 years ago http://ithisad.blogspot.de/2009/07/idea-ad-exorcist-10.html .... the widget offers to swap ads for kittens.

Social Media Marketing "creative" contest scheme
That's roughly how it goes:
A brand posts online a brief with a reward for best idea (a tiny tiny fraction of what a professional ad agency would ask) and invites everybody to participate. Soon it receive hundreds of submissions from the general public participants attracted by the reward. Next step: they rate each others ideas (usually the most conventional ideas are most popular!), then the brand's jury makes its pick (usually the most popular ideas - not to upset the public!) and the winner gets his or her bounty.
Now, what happens to the rest of submissions? Here's the clever part:
They get further promotion for free by their authors as their personal creative endeavors across many other channels of social media, i.e. 'hey, check out my idea' on Tweeter, FB, Youtube, personal websites, etc. And for the brand it doesn’t really matter whether these ideas are crap or not. The most important – they keep the brand’s visibility.
So, for a price of a bicycle (or so) the brand kills 2 birds at the same time – generation of content (within the contest) and continuous promotion of the content free of charge by the same public across their personal channels afterwards. Here’s an example of a crappy idea with 936 views on Youtube.
It seems to me that when it comes to social media engagement, quality of ideas (originality, innovation, etc.) is not a priory. What really matters here is the quantity of ideas and their perpetual and free promotion on the web by the authors themselves.
Imho, I don't see this model of social marketing as a long runner.

Idea: Parallel (game) universe experience
Problem: If you play a lot of video games and have thought that they are starting to look very similar, you are not alone. 'Threequels and sequels' - the latest games reviewed.
Solution: Why not set up a special online game platform where players of one game can temporarily find themselves in a parallel universe , i.e. a rival game?
Imagine you are playing 'Call of Duty' online and suddenly there's a 'glitch' and you are in the middle of 'Battlefield' and then, 10 min later, you find yourself fighting in 'Halo' and then back to where you started - 'Call of Duty'.

For an exclusive launch of a new super car, Mercedes Benz sets up a special magickal initiation ritual website.
Below is an example of a teaser print featuring a magick copy which customers will be able to understand once they pass the initiation process:

News vs Paywalls
My guess is that in the near future the old concept of news ownership will be quite ridiculous.
Paywalls are anti-social and will fail. http://www.wallblog.co.uk/2010/07/14/no-one-is-subscribing-to-the-times-paywall-says-source/

Idea: VoxBox for social media
How it works:
We let people record a sound with their mouth (just like beatboxing) via their webcams and store it on a special website... it could be a musical note (do,re,me,fa,so,la,si,do), imitation of a music instrument, a drone, whistle, unusual sound, etc.)... and then build an app that can put these sounds in certain musical style templates (dubstep, drum'n'base, hip hop, etc)... so it will be like social beatbox...
Since the sounds come with the visuals the program will also create a video rmx with actual faces making the sound... this will make a perfect viral video for youtube: facebook voxbox competition with different FaceBook friends circles competing for the best vox mix.
Here’s an example of music keyboard interface:
With all the usual sound machine special effects and controls.
Beatboxing is an increasingly popular style of making tunes with a mouth. Here’s a reference link to the current beatboxing champion Birdyman from UK (my favourite)

Idea: Write the future.
A small widget app that FBook users can install. It appears on the screen every few days, displays some random headline and asks if it’s likely to happen in the nearest future or not.
Second option offers to write your own headline and set the time when it’s likely to happen.
Bild-future-headlines.de would display statistical data of people votes as well as the entire archive with user generated headlines.
Users also have an option to vote for the most popular future headline.
Bild Newspaper would offer a reward, for example a bit of cash, to anyone who correctly predicts the future or picks the right headline.
Headlines can also be posted via Twitter.

Idea: MOVIES PRODUCT PLACEMENT 3.0
Its quite common nowadays to see user generated ads for brands on social media.
Why not make product placement marketing in movies also interactive and open-source?
Imagine a movie website that offers premium movies for free online viewing in exchange for user created content that promotes a certain brand and placed in the movie as a bubble-thought or a bubble-speech.
Some censorship rules might apply to prevent abuse and to encourage "bubbles" that are most creative, original and funny
ALternatively, bubbles could be set as a default canvas for Google AdWords, etc. :
Bubbls are interactive layers on top of the movie that function as mini webs and are capable of streaming rich multimedia.

Idea: Audio-Visual Lie Detector widget
Idea: Recycling old TV ads into game quiz
The idea is to recycle already existing classical (otherwise non-interactive) TV ads by adding to them a layer of interactivity.
How it works:
On a special website a viewer is offered to watch a random classic TV commercial and in the end he is presented with a set of random questions related to the just watched commercial. For example:

Great product, silly slogan (2)
awhile ago I made a post (Great product, silly slogan) where I criticized a slogan on a website and offered a more honest version ... and today I accidentally found out that the company responded and changed that slogan on their website. Grrreat!
(They didn't notify me about the change directly, but I guess they were worried that I would be asking money for that. Which is kinda silly too :)))

Idea: LeBay is the new eBay
Strategic reasoning: In the time of recession people tend to buy less and share more. So why not to design a new product that would let people auction their items only for temporary use?
It’s like leasing meets ebay. Let’s call it LeBay for example:
As part of marketing strategy to launch the site we invite special celebrity guests to rent out some of their personal items to general public. The money raised from their rented out belongings will go to a charity of their choice. i.e. Madonna rents out her old sofa to support hungry children in Africa, or Ronaldo rents out his car to support decriminalization of marijuana, whatever.

Airports Customs Control + new counter idea
I am finally back to Berlin from my 6 months stay India and Thailand. Herzlich Wilkommen. German customs officers at Berlin Airport are very diligent in following their orders to stop "smugglers" of duty-free goods ... so my persona apparently raised their professional suspicion (not unjustified!) and i was duly stopped.
They quickly uncovered that i had 10 packs of "illegal" cigarettes hidden in my rucksack.
Anyway, the reason I am writing all that is that those charming custom officers (in Tegel Airport they wear rubber gloves all the time even if they don't perform their anal searches!! oh yes, that makes them look even so scary!) inspired a new idea how to bring more duty-free goods through airport customs.... and legally:
Why not to set up a website where "smokers" for a fee can hire "non-smokers" (passengers of the same flight) to carry their "excess" of duty-free cigarettes safely through the customs?
For example, I know that I am going to fly on a certain date from A to B and I want to buy say 60 packs of duty-free cigarettes, I go to a special website, lets say called dutyfreeagentcentral.com, and find 5 passengers on this flight who might be willing to carry 10 packs (the legal amount) of my duty-free load through the airport customs.
Once we pass through the customs control I collect my duty-free ciggs from them and pay say 10€ each "agent" for the service. And everybody is happy (incl. the customs I hope!)
Let's say I know that I am not going to buy any duty-free alcohol, so I can volunteer to be someone's "duty-free agent" as well, carry their excess bottles through and get paid 10€ or smth afterward.
Or, if he/she is not a smoker and carries my ciggs and I carry his/her brandy - then it will be just an exchange of favours with no money involved.
Say there are 200 passengers on the plane with 50/50 ratio of smokers and non-smokers. Here's an opportunity for each non-smoker to earn extra 10€. I think that travelers can volunteer to be "duty-free agents" for any sort of goods sold at duty-free shops (make-up, perfumes, electronics, whatever.)
I also believe that "duty-free agents" website should be a free public service, perhaps sponsored by an alcohol or a tobacco brand?

idea: User generated interactive billboard
Consumers decide what ads (brands) should be displayed on a giant digital city billboard.
click on the pic below to see animated version how it can look in real time:
It can work like this:
Members of the public can choose brand(s) from a list on a special website. For example, the more clicks (or votes) you contribute to your favourite brand, the longer the name of the brand stays on the digital billboard.
The comulative sum of the clicks can be monetized and shared between the contributors,
i.e. 1000 clicks = 10 hrs of display = 100$ (approx)

Idea: Online public trash depository
Why not to offer a service that would allow computer users to upload deleted files from their desktop recycle bins for storing them in a global public recyclebin? Anyone is free to scavenge for salvageable material, download and reuse it.
Once the volume of submissins reaches, say, half a million uploads, the site will introduce a public contest to reward the best recycling ideas, for example re-use in digital arts, in sociological studies, etc.

Idea: Online games for real life causes
Here's an idea that brings a new meaning to multiplayer war games:
To educate the players about real life political views of both conflicting sides and let them decide which cause they want to fight for.
The game emulates the real life conflict conditions in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine. Military and diplomatic actions are played in real time by players from different countries in the world.
How it works:
1. The player joins the army after reading statestments from both warring sides of the conflict.
2. After joining the army the player can choose to participate as a "diplomat" (to work on diplomatic strategies and solutions) , as a "warrior" (to fight in battlefield) or as a "journalist" (to witness the events and to report about them on blogs and social networks).
3. Battles are set daily at fixed time.
4. The army that wins most battlefields gets the highest score.
5. The army's diplomats can use the scores as leverage in negotiations with the opposite army.
The ultimate goal of the game is to achive political status quo and bring peace to the region.
Military and political strategies can be discussed and decided by players on special forums and social networks.
War reports are sent around the clock via sms, adding reality. For example:
Palestinian army successfully liberated North of West Gaza.
Sergeant X was killed yesterday in Romalla.
X was graded up as a captain.
X was graded up as chief reporter.
A piramid scheme network:
The player can grade up in the army by recruiting friends as downline "warriors". The same grading principle applies for "diplomats" and "reporters".
Best strategies and tactics from the game will be analized and suggested for possible application in analog world.
All in all, it would be interesting to see if the crowd wisdom can beat real life politicians and generals.
this could be a cool project for private gaming companies like Kuma Games.
This idea was inspired by the following viral campaign for a snack brand. They created 2 armies devided by the taste preferences of two different flavours of the snack.
The armies fought eachother using mobile phones technology.

Idea: News on the news
We all know that different news media push different political agendas. Why not to create a news channel that would make it even more obvious? Let's say a daily (or weekly) "news on the news" tv channel (or a web portal!) that would tell us how most popular news media covers the most important daily world news .
For example, if the news are about the conflict in the middle east, the presenter of News on News tells us what FOX, CNN or Aljazeera reported about it (i.e. what part of the story is emphasized, what are the political accents, what part of the story are not reported, if there are any other differences of the coverage, etc.)
The benefit for the general public: it will not only provide a more objective picture of the world news, but will also make news media manupulation more transparent for the viewer.
Below are some visual moods of the idea:
