Idea: supermarket to adopt Like tagging in the store

Wouldn't it be great if supermarket customers could LikeTag their favourite products LIVE using their personal supermarket customer cards?

and why not also set up the supermarket's Facebook page where visitors can LikeTag the products online with immediate live updates offline - in the store?

'fake' advertising in the future

Modern advertising has a serious ethical problem:
It artificially creates demand for things that people don't really need. Increasingly so it also perpetuates unsustainable growth.

Here's a simple comparison of what is and will be.

OLD MODEL:

we make a product first and then try artificially create maximum market demand for it (through advertising)
result: unsustainable overproduction

NEW MODEL:

we advertise the concepts of future products first (or try to create maximum market demand for it) and only later, if there's enough positive response for it, we move into production process.
result: sustainable economy

So the difference is in the order of continuity.

This also implies that a creative agency will be spending most of its resources on creating new product concepts and 'fake' ads.

Future of marketing

A thought has a mass that can be measured. In the future people’s thoughts can be detected and quantified by special sensors that would be embedded in the objects of observation, i.e. a billboard, video screen, etc. The length of the visual contact between the observer and the observed object will reveal the degree of interest and the nature of the observer’s response.

On mushrooms

As a tree grows old it accumulates fungus. Fungus controls deterioration of the tree’s tissue. It is possible to imagine that fungus is a program that is written by non humans (fungus comes from space with cosmic dust). Human body also carries fungus that controls metabolism and aging process. The key to prolonging human life is the fungus. Sooner or later we have to realize it. Now, how does earth fungus get cosmic program updates? Through cosmic radiation. Today we have dramatic increase of electromagnetic radiation coming from the sun (sun spots). But also all other planets in our galaxy get more radio active. Our bodily fungus is a transmitter/receiver of cosmic radiation that hacks into our DNA and re-edits the code. There is evidence to suggest that fungus has been a catalyst of ape to human consciousness. We can also assume that the ongoing cosmic processes directly relates to our emotional states of being.

News vs Paywalls

My guess is that in the near future the old concept of news ownership will be quite ridiculous.

Paywalls are anti-social and will fail. http://www.wallblog.co.uk/2010/07/14/no-one-is-subscribing-to-the-times-paywall-says-source/

Cropcircles 2010 UK

These are pics of 2 crop circles that appeared this spring in UK one after another (a day difference).
Both images have the same parts but differently rearranged. To me it looks like 2 parts of one message.

here's my spontaneous interpretation of what it could mean. click to enlarge:

Mother shows she cares in a refreshing way

A few years back I suggested my former boss an idea to send our agency team with humanitarian help to Palestine. The plan was to arrive on trucks loaded with humanitarian kits donated by the agency clients and the agency itself.
He seemed to like the idea but wasn't quite convinced that this is a thing for an ad agency to do.

But attitudes change. Mother just has set up an example of an ad agency getting directly involved in social issues by sending its agency team to South Africa... to help communities to build a permanent football pitch, a community center and a day-care center, as well as funding school meals and setting up a program with Dell to provide computers for schools. Great move. More here.

On the future of brand slogans

Todays in Advertising Age article Amsterdam Abandons the 30-Second Spot and Why Long-Form Ads Are the Wave of the Future they write about downfall of expensive tv commercials vs online inexpensive films.

When I read that I remembered a post I published awhile ago where I also speculated about the future destiny of classical tv ads. Not so much in terms of "expensive short vs inexpensive long" but from my point of view that in the future ads will look more like movie trailers offering deeper interactive experiences ... with clever product placements... and free of any direct selling propositions or any self-congratulatory messages.

I bet that 5 to 7 years from now on the majority of all tv or video ads will be like mini-movies with an exciting (hopefully) story and a product placement.

So the creative challenge will be less about crafting a commercial message and more about inventing an engaging and memorable experience that can be traced back to a brand.

and btw, i am almost sure no one will be making ads like this.
