BMW Hourglass in Moscow

It's the kick-off party to start the countdown for BMW’s European launch of the latest model of BMW 7 series, slated to take place this fall. At the start of the build-up, more than 180,000 silvery balls concealed the car that was gradually revealed as the balls fell to the lower level. The 12-meter-high glass contraption is the centerpiece of the party thrown to 400 invited guests and celebrities. Pretty cool kick-off.

Idea: Beer brand supports local community

A beer brand launches special edition beer to support personal dreams of the local community members.

Members of the public are invited to register at www.beer-support.com where they can upload their dreams andl wishes. Once a month 2 or 3 profiles will be randomely picked to be featured on the actual beer bottles.

Each bottle will have a direct link to the the website where the beer drinkers can get more info about the "person on their bottle" and how much money they have raised so far.

www.beer-support.com will accept all sorts of causes to support as long as they serve common good of the community.

Registration and posting on the website is free. (premium membership can be introduced later in exchange for more features).

We are currently seeking business partnership with a beer brand to make this project a reality.

Too much choice leads to paralysis

A brilliant talk on TED from psychologist Barry Schwartz who takes aim at a central tenet of western societies: freedom of choice. In Schwartz's estimation, choice has made us not freer but more paralyzed, not happier but more dissatisfied.

Billboard Made of Money

The penny billboard was unveiled in London’s New Oxford Street to advertise the 769,500-pence starting price of the new Chevrolet Aveo.

The unique installation – made using over 20,000 pennies – only lasted 30 minutes as hundreds of opportunistic passers-by seized their moment to pick up a penny or two.

Chevrolet's Les Turton comments: “There has been some great car adverts before, but none that have stopped traffic and actually put money back into the motorist’s pocket so this is certainly a first,” said Les Turton of Chevrolet. “We’re glad we’ve topped up lots of people’s wallets, purses and, in some cases, rucksacks, but it would have been nice for the billboard to last a little longer than 30 minutes.”

DSとウェブカメラで遊ぶこと(._.)

From trendhunter.com : Her videos have combined for millions of views, so what’s the deal with MRirian? Why are so many people watching her, and why does anybody care? Is she Japanese? Is she playing “pedobait?”

Watch and decide for yourself:

Two themes interleave the online discussions -- some not at all nice -- that seek to grapple with her popularity: One, that she's playing "pedobait," to use a lovely phrase, aiming to gain an audience of boys and men for ad-revenue purposes (i.e., she's a camgirl). And/or two, that she's making some kind of artsy, deep comment by playing a stereotype, that stereotype being either -- now hang with me here -- of pop culture-addled Japanese teenage girls, or of white American girls who play pop culture-added Japanese teenagers...

or it's just a clever idea to create a platform for a future product placement?

Review: Content is everything.

This is an excellent slideshow from Uwe Gutschow blog on the future of advertising. His main point is that marketing new content will replace classic advertising. My point is that this new content has to be created in the first place (and to be creative enough to catch the attention of consumers). To me the word "marketing" equals "technology" and marketing by itself doesn't create the content (at it's best it can creatively use new forms of distribution channels). So, I don't think that marketing will replace advertising (as a prime content creator), but maybe the word "advertising" will be replaced by "lovertising" (ideas that spread love)? :)

Idea: Instant Desktop File Previews

I don't consider myself an overly organised person and usually there is a lot of stuff scattered all over my desktop (usually for a quicker access later on). The problem is that current Windows XP operating system (I don't know about Vista though) doesn't give you much information when you roll a mouse over a particular file on your desktop. Here's an example as it is now:

So, wouldn't it be more convenient if it displayed an instant preview of the actual file? (similar to Snap Shots preview widget used in Wordpress). One could preview not only image files (jpeg, png, bmp, etc) but also all other possible formats like word docs, pdf, music files (audio preview), exel, etc.

Below are some examples of instant desktop previews of different file formats (click on image to enlarge):

Idea: Good News vs Bad News (2)

Following my previous post, here's an idea for a news media channel that devides the news into two main categories - Bad News and Good News. Readers can decide what kind of news they want to read by clicking on the category buttons on the banner.

Below is an example for BBC:

Idea: Package design for wine

Wine bottles are heavy and boring. Why not to produce a special wine container in a shape of realistic looking vine grape? Wine lovers can pick individual grapes from the vine and savour the wine by gently pressing the grape in the mouth.

The grape vine packaging is made from special gummy material that can be eaten or not.

The idea also works with strong alcoholic beverages based on grapes, i.e. grape vodka, liquors, etc.

Idea: Intimate brand messaging on t-shirts

In the previous post I introduced my idea for self messaging t-shirts (MantraTees).

Shortly afterwards I had another idea: Why not to use this concept for corporate branding? I mean to use it as a platform for brand's personal messaging to the wearer.

Below is an example of Starbucks brand asking a personal queastion to the wearer:

more brand examples coming soon.

Idea: Mantra Tees

All t-shirts are statements about yourself to the outside world. Why not to wear a t-shirt with a statement to yourself?

The brand's name can be:

The wearer can read the t-shirt's message each time he or she is infront of a mirror, i.e. at home, in public toilet, in a reflection of glass on the street or indoors, etc.

some examples of MantraTees:

If you would like to buy some of these t-shirts, pls visit my tee shop.

Idea: Personal Bookmarks for eBooks?

there are many ebooks around written in pdf format...and many of them are pretty long. So why not to create a special bookmarking widget inside the pdf viewer for easy access to our favourite parts?

click on pic to enlarge.

bookmarks can be created using personal tagging. thus one can always access favourite quotes or text passages from the book without wasting lots of time searching through the whole ebook.
